Matthew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, SLAMS President Muhammadu Buhari

                                                                  Kukah Buhari

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to build on the achievement of former president Goodluck Jonathan rather than play the blame game.

Kukah, who spoke with reporters at the Catholic Bishops Conference Dinner Night held at the International Event Centre, (DOME) in Akure, Ondo State, said that Buhari was not voted into power to complain, but to work on resolving Nigeria’s economic woes.
The Bishop said, "the previous government did not only do bad things; he did a lot of good things".
And I think the business of government is not our business; our business is if the previous government did bad, that is why we voted a new government.
We did not vote a government to complain about yesterday. If we wanted yesterday, the new government would not be there. It is really about taking responsibility.
No matter how much you praise or abuse Jonathan, he is not the President of Nigeria. I think that people (PMB) must understand that you take power to solve problems not to agonize.
As the head of a family, no matter how bad things are: no food in the house; you as a father cannot enter the house crying.
It is the question of developing the mechanism, else you can’t solve the problem.
Even my best friends in APC now realize that nobody can sing the song about Jonathan being responsible for the problems we are in.
We are not asking you to change the whole world, but Jonathan created problems: we are now riding a train between Abuja and Kaduna now; the train was not there before.
Things that Jonathan did that can help Nigeria, let us continue with them.
The bad things that Jonathan did and those who deserve to go to prison should go to prison.
But sending people to prison will only be useful if it puts bread on the table of people”.

***In responding, the Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has replied his critics who accused him of handing over a nation at the verge of collapse to his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking with Friends of Africa Coalition at the Mayor’s office in New Jersey, Jonathan recounted the achievements of his government to include, handing over a country that produced the richest man in Africa.
Jonathan said, “I am proud to say that while I took over a Nigeria that was the second largest economy in Africa with a GDP of $270.5 billion in 2009, I handed over a Nigeria that had grown to become the largest economy in Africa and the 24th largest economy in the World with a GDP of $574 billion.
“I inherited a Nigeria in which the trains were not working, and handed over a Nigeria in which citizens can safely travel by trains again. I inherited a Nigeria that was a net importer of cement, and handed over a Nigeria that is a net exporter of cement.
In 2009 the richest Nigerian was the 5th richest man in Africa, but I handed over a Nigeria that produced the richest man in Africa.”
The list continues.....
Also according to Senator Shehu Sani (APC senator) representing Kaduna Central; "Nigerians are not asking APC/Pa Buhari to fix the problems of this country any longer; they are asking APC/Pa Buhari to fix the problems they caused between May 2015 and now..."
