BREAKING NEWS!!! Senators Reject Buhari's Emergency Powers Bill.

Senators Reject Buhari's Emergency Powers Bill, Say It'll Turn Him into a Tyrant.

The proposed bill by President Muhammadu Buhari to the senate for emergency powers might have hit a brick wall as the lawmakers have opposed the plan.

The proposed bill by President Muhammadu Buhari to secure emergency powers to address the nation’s economic crisis has hit a brick wall as senators yesterday kicked against it, saying it would turn him into a tyrant.

The proposed bill gives the president the power to make economic decisions without consulting the senate. The bill entitled, “Emergency Economy Stabilisation Bill 2016”, will be sent to the National Assembly by the president upon resumption from its summer vacation and after the Eid-el Kabir holidays.

According to ThisDay, several senators have kicked against the bill. The senators, who did not want to be named, said some of the provisions in the bill were unnecessary, describing it as nothing more than a subtle way of avoiding counterpart funding by the Buhari administration.

The senators revealed further that if the bill is passed as proposed, the president will gradually transform himself into a dictator and draw Nigeria back to the path of military rule, which it exited 17 years ago.

The senators’ therefore vowed to stop the bill from making any progress. ThisDay revealed that Buhari would seek emergency powers from the National Assembly to push his planned stimulus for the economy.

The objectives of the bill will include shoring up the value of the naira, job creation, boosting foreign exchange reserves, reviving the manufacturing sector, and improving power supply.

The quest for emergency powers by the executive is the initiative of the economic team headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, which has been saddled with the responsibility of reviewing various policies in the country and their effects on the economy

Socialmediaman has this to say, ‘Hitler was elected by the people of Germany. He also sought the same powers from the assembly and they gave it to him, oblivious. The first thing he did with the powers was to suspend the assembly. Sounds familiar? I'm only saying... Mr President could use the power and suspend the senate and the constitution out of "the need" to 'save' Nigeria money. Completely unacceptable, Nigeria doesn't need another dictator. That bill is dead on arrival. The Senate has majority APC leadership, I don't see why he can't work with them to implement his planned stimulus packages.

But according to Nkechi Asogwa, on Nairaland, ‘These Legislators are all cowards. The Legislative arm of government has never been reduced to nothing like now. This was how they initially kicked against Buhari's list of Ambassadors, did they not shamelessly take back their vomit by accepting the list? They may be kicking against this now just to make noise, believe me, they will still accept it’

The debate continues, since the senate has not had plenary session as it's on recess. Majority of the senators that were interviewed has rejected the bill.

Buhari must Wake Up; by Cardinal Anthony Okogie

Open letter to President Buhari

Cardinal Anthony Okogie, emeritus Archbishop of Lagos, wrote from Lagos

DEAR Mr. President,
Last year, when you assumed office, the chant of “Change”, your campaign slogan, ushered you into the Presidential Villa.  Today, cries of “hunger” could be heard across the length and breadth of our vast country.  Nigerians hunger, not only for food, but also for good leadership, for peace, security and justice.  This letter is to appeal to you to do something fast, and, if you are already doing something, to redouble your effort. May it not be written on the pages of history that Nigerians die of starvation under your watch.   As President, you are chief servant of the nation.  I therefore urge you to live up to the huge expectation of millions of Nigerians.  A stitch in time saves nine.

The way forward
This is the second year of your administration.  You and your party promised to lead the masses to the Promised Land.   It is not an easy task to lead.  But by campaigning for this office, you offered to take the enormous task of leadership upon yourself. Nigerians are waiting for you to fulfill the promises you made during the campaign.  They voted you into office because of those promises. The introduction of town hall meetings is a commendable idea.  But in practice, you, not just your ministers, must converse with Nigerians.  You are the President. You must be accountable to them.

The buck stops on your desk.  Even if your administration has no magic wand at least give some words of encouragement.  On this same score, please instruct your ministers, and insist that they be sincere and polite at those town meetings.  Their sophistry will neither serve you nor Nigerians. Mr. President, if you want to leave a credible legacy come 2019, in all sincerity, please retool your administration.  Change is desirable.  But it must be a change for the better.  Let this change be real.  Change is not real when old things that we ought to discard refuse to pass away.  You will need to take a critical look at your cabinet, at the policies and programmes of your administration, and at those who help you to formulate and execute them.

You will need to take a critical look at the manner of appointments you have been making.  It is true that commonsense dictates that you appoint men and women you can trust.  But if most of the people you trust are from one section of the country and practice the same religion, then you and all of us are living in insecurity. The Nigerian economy has never been in a state as terrible as this. You as President are like pilot of an aircraft flying in turbulence.  Turbulent times bring the best or the worst out of a pilot.  We can no longer blame the turbulence on past administrations.  You know quite well that some of the officials of your administration served in previous dispensations. Blame for what we have been experiencing is in fact bipartisan in character.

The entire political class needs to come together, irrespective of party differences, to acknowledge its collective guilt and to seek ways of saving the sinking ship that our country has become.  This cannot be done if some officials of your administration demonise and alienate members of the opposition.  If a large portion of the blame for the present situation is to be laid on the doorsteps of the entire political class, the search for solution must involve everyone.  That is why no one should be alienated. All hands must be on deck. This is the time to revitalise moribund industries, reinvigorate our agriculture, make our country tourist and investor friendly, and enable our young men and women to find fulfillment by contributing to the common good.

None of these lofty goals can be achieved without good education.  On this particular issue, recent appointments you have made in the education sector raise a question: have you really appointed the best? Still on education, it is important that our universities be allowed to use their own criteria to admit students.  It is a gross violation of the principles of federalism and academic freedom for the federal government to insist that only a federal parastatal can decide on who gains admission into our universities. It is the role of the university senate, not of government bureaucrats, to decide on who gets admitted and who is awarded a certificate.

The war on corruption
Mr. President, your desire to wage a war on corruption is just and noble. But a just war must be waged with just means.  Those who have stolen the wealth of this country have broken the laws of our country.  They must be treated according to the law and not outside the law, and the outcome of the judicial process must be respected by government.  Even accused persons have rights.

Where those rights are violated, we risk a descent to anarchy. It is our candid opinion that corruption is not found in only one party.  No political party in Nigeria has a monopoly of looters.  That is why we need an EFCC that is thoroughly independent of the presidency, and an Attorney General without party affiliation working in partnership with various independent accounting institutes.

This will ensure that we come up with an objective list of those who plundered our treasury. Mr. President, pardon me if I sound like a gratuitous counselor.  I owe you the truth and nothing but the truth. In my life as a public figure and a religious leader, I have offered my counsel, for whatever its worth, to quite a number of Presidents in this country.  I do this because I desire that you succeed.

For the success of the leader is the success of the citizens. If there is no solution to Nigeria’s problem there may be endless war. You strike one town, you gain it, and you come again to regain it. Remember that you cannot put a crown on your head. It is the people who put it on you. Otherwise one day, you will get tired of it. Please listen to the legitimate cries of your fellow citizens.

The Strenght of Nigerian Youths Pt. 1

There is no field of human endeavor that Nigerian youth do not excel in, despite having some of the most challenging circumstances in the world. The Nigerian youths have under achieved 'politically' and 'collectively'.

It may surprise you to know that the  total vote for both the 2011 & 2015 Presidential election is about 30 million, which is just about half the population of Nigerian youths.
Nigerian Youths constitute about 60% of the country's population.

If the youths can awake and unite to pool this massive power, we'll have youth Presidents and youth Governors.

If the youth don't unite and use their population to elect "Youth Leaders", they will keep being leaders of a tomorrow that will never come!

Let's have your comments......

Breaking News! Vehicle Speed Limiting Device Policy to begin October 1 — FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, on Wednesday said it would commence implementation of speed-limiting device on commercial vehicles in the country.

The announcement was made on Wednesday at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, said he was happy to formally announce the commencement despite numerous obstacles faced by officials while analysing the technology and trying to convince Nigerians about the benefits of its acceptance.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the obstacles forced the agency to shift the launching date from initial June 1, 2015, schedule to the new date.
“The final directive from the presidency is clear; the enforcement date for the implementation of the speed limiting device is on Oct. 1 and we have had series of stakeholders meeting,” Mr. Oyeyemi said.

“The essence of today’s meeting is to finally convey the directive of the federal government to the stakeholders that with effect from Oct. 1, the implementation and enforcement would commence.”

Mr. Oyeyemi said a platform that will serve as monitoring system for total compliance of the policy had been put in place as well as punitive measures for errant drivers.

“We already have the portal that we will use to monitor this, we don’t need to pursue any vehicle, we will just stop you like we verify licence.

“On the tablet we will check whether your vehicle has been installed with the device, if it has not, we will impound the vehicle and we make sure that you do the right thing.

“We are not talking about fines now ,it’s to save lives so we will impound the vehicle then the owner of the vehicle will be made to install the device before the journey continues.” Mr. Oyeyemi said.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, was responsible for the design of the policy, adding that a review would be conducted after three to six months of commencement to appraise compliance by motorists.

Security agencies, federal lawmakers, bureaucrats as well as members of road transport unions were represented at the event.

Video: Paul Pogba 1ST Man Untd Interview Part 1

Paul Pogba gave an exclusive interview to MUTV shortly after completing his transfer back to Manchester United from Juventus.

In part one, the French midfielder spoke to David Stowell about his excitement at returning to the Reds, and of how he's grown as a player in his four years away. Look out for part two from 09:00 BST on Tuesday…

Paul, welcome back to Manchester United. How do you sum up your emotions right now?
There’s no words, to be honest, there’s no words. I just came back to Carrington. It was like I’d just come back home. I just went for a holiday, looks like I went for a holiday. I’ve come back home, I’m happy and I see everyone, the same persons. It’s just a great feeling, to be honest.

I suppose it’s a funny question after what you’ve just said but why are you back here at United? What made you come back?
I think it’s destiny, I would say it’s destiny. First my mum told me I would come back here and I told her, ‘You never know, you’ll see.’ For myself as well it’s a big challenge too, just to come back to where I came from, where I grew up, where I started. I didn’t finish what I started here so I think I came here to finish it.

And of course, you have to listen to your mum…
My mum, she says ‘Your mum’s always right.’ So she was right this time, so it’s good.

And how does it feel to be the world’s most expensive footballer? That’s quite an achievement with all that you’ve already achieved on the pitch…
The thing with me is I only think about the pitch. I want to do great, I want to be one of the best, I want to win titles, I want to achieve things and that’s all; that’s why I came here, just to do this, to become one of the best and to win titles because I know this club has to win titles. This club is created to win titles, to win things, to win big things. I just focus on this and that’s it. I’m just ready to go and work on that and just kill it. (smiles)

Has it been a mad summer for you, playing in the Euros at home for France and then being linked with different clubs?
Yeah. Was there a bit of sadness? Of course, because we lost the final at home. But I will say I’m happy. It was a bad thing for a good thing so I’m happy now. I’m back home and it’s something crazy, it’s really crazy, I cannot explain. I’m very, very happy, the feeling I have in my body. I can’t wait to start.

What’s it like being Paul Pogba now, compared to when you were here at 18 or 19, in this indoor arena at the Academy?
Well, I was younger. Now I’m taller and bigger (laughs). It’s just like… as I told you… it looks like I went for a holiday and I came back home. I was meant to come back here. I feel this. I always had this United thing in my heart and that’s why I came back. I’m happy, just happy.

How have you changed as a player since you were here at United the first time around? What have you learned about your game, about yourself? How are you different?
I’m more experienced, I’ve won titles at Juventus. I’ve been playing with big players like when I started at Man United, of course. I came back. I’ve not come back from the Academy now; I went to play somewhere else and I came back, I would say, as a person, as an adult. I would say with experience, with more games, so I think that’s the difference.

IS AISHA HALLIBURTON STILL IN THE UNITED STATES OF NIGERIA?

LIES WOULD SERVE YOU THE MOMENT, BUT IT WOULD ALSO DISGRACE YOUR FUTURE!!!

•••IS AISHA HALLIBURTON STILL IN THE UNITED STATES OF NIGERIA?

So, I was having a conversation with my distant cousin, an attorney in America, who was also my classmate in the UK.

When I decided to relocate to Nigeria, he decided to do the New York bar and relocated to America. He lives in Fairfax Virginia with his family.

The reason he called for such a lengthy conversation is not farfetched. Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria.

He is so worried at the level we as a people in Nigeria have disintegrated and degenerated to. He could not believe that Nigerians and the presidential handlers could tell such bare face lies and unashamedly too.

He took it upon himself to attend the supposed lecture that the wife of the United states of Nigeria Lol….was to attend in the United states of America and giving lectures at the US George Mason University’s institute of peace in Fairfax Virginia.

AISHA HALLIBURTON BUHARI WAS NOT IN FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA.

He said, he was at the institute throughout and did not have a glimpse of the wife of Nigeria’s president. What bothers him even the more is how Nigeria’s media and the length at which social media back home could be plunged into such low level as to photo-shopped her in a country that she did not even touch her foot at the airport let alone arrive in.

Has Fayose been vindicated yet again?
Please, APC rabid followers can you also send me photo clips and links of that lecture, arrival at the airport, reception by our embassy officials as the tradition demands.

Winner of the 1st Gold Medal of Rio Olympic 2016

USA’s gold medallist Virginia Thrasher

US teenager Virginia Thrasher claimed the first Rio Olympics gold medal with her final shot in the shooting on Saturday.
The 19-year-old won the women’s 10m air rifle title at the Deodoro shooting venue, holding her nerve to see off China’s Du Li on the final shot.
She finished with 208 points, one clear of 2004 Athens champion Du. Bronze medal went to China’s defending champion Yi Siling.

Olympic chief Thomas Bach looked on in the crowd as the first of 12 gold medals in play on a crammed opening day was awarded. There are more than 300 titles on offer over the next fortnight at the 2016 Olympics.

Gold medallist Virginia Thrasher (C) poses on the podium with China’s silver medal winner Du Li (L) and China’s bronze medallist Yi Siling during the medal ceremony for the women’s 10m air rifle shooting event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Olympic Shooting Centre in Rio de Janeiro on August 6, 2016.

Thrasher claimed gold just 11 hours after Brazilian marathon runner Vanderlei Cordeiro lit the Olympic cauldron at the climax of Friday’s spectacular opening ceremony.
An absorbing competition was led briefly by Daria Vdovina, one of the Russian contingent competing in Rio in the shadow of the massive doping scandal that has dogged the Games build-up.
She eventually slipped off the pace to finish fifth.
Yi was bang in contention to successfully defend her 2012 crown but sharp shooting saw Thrasher and Du go head to head, with the American, displaying maturity beyond her years, edging it on the final shot.
Surprise absentees from the final were Serbian duo Andrea Arsovic and Ivana Maksomovic, both rated major threats but who misfired in qualifying.
For New York native Thrasher this was a dream Olympic debut after only taking up the sport four years ago.

BUDGET PADDING - MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING...

I am yet to see the heading of the offence under which Budget Padding falls into.

I can only see this budget padding as an Executive negligence if not the worst Executive recklessness from the inception of this country.

A budget as a Bill when passed and assented to becomes an Act (law) of the National Assembly, and whatever happened at the preliminary stages of enacting such a law cannot be questioned by any legislator or even investigated as a crime by the law enforcement agencies.
There is no morality in law.

There is no more crime in the budget padding.
I think all this noise about budget padding is a mere distraction from the economic hardship and bad governance being experienced by the poor masses.
This government is simply diverting our attention to irrelevant issues and we are all falling for it.
Padding is currently not a crime, but a moral issue on those legislators that perpetrated such acts. It would've been a major issue if it was addressed before the President signed the budget.

Abeg my people, let's keep talking about the economic hardship facing us and this government lack of focus and non existent economic blue print.

HIGH CORRUPTION in Buhari's Katsina as Govt Buys 720 Goats For N102m To Enpower Women

The RT. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari; The Executive Governor of Katsina State

The Katsina state government has disclosed that as part of it women empowerment initiatives, it has procured 720 goats for women in the state.

The empowerment scheme was made possible as a result of a N2 billion loan the Aminu Masari administration obtained from the Central bank.

What is entirely curious about the scheme is that the Katsina state government claims it cost N102 million, to buy the 720 goats. That simply translates to; N141,666.6666666667 per goat.

Seemingly justifying the cost of the scheme, Masari said at a press conference yesterday, ’The goats are insured for one year and veterinary officers will be going round all the LGAs to provide medication that may be necessary,’’

We are wondering, how much could it possibly cost to buy and insure one cow?

Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Empowerment, disclosed this on Tuesday in Katsina at the launching of the programme.
He said that each of 240 women selected across the 34 local governments would be given two female goats and one male goat.

The official said that the animals, which were purchased in Niger Republic, were of highly reproductive and good for breeding.

“Research has showed that the goats reproduce twice a year and give up to two liters of milk daily.

“The goats are also insured for one year and veterinary officers will be going round in all the local governments to provide medication to the animals if the need arises,’’ he said.

Nasir said that the animals were being given to the beneficiaries under a loan scheme and the cost was expected to be repaid after a year.

He urged the beneficiaries not to sell the animals and ensure their proper care.

Nasir also said that the government had disbursed N30 million to 1,890 physically challenged people across the state to establish small-scale businesses.

He said that the government had also empowered one physically challenged from each local government area with a shop, generator, charging board, recorder and N20,000 worth of recharge cards to engage in business.

The special adviser said that N340 million was also disbursed to various organised trade associations in the state, all in efforts to boost small and medium scale enterprises in the state.

Gov. Aminu Masari said that the loans were part of the N2 billion loan obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the development of Small Scale and Medium Entrepreneurship.

He said that loan attracted nine per cent interest rate and would be paid by the state government.

Masari urged the beneficiaries to utilise the loans judiciously.

Malama Maryam Abdullahi, one of the beneficiaries, commended the government for initiating the scheme.

But 24 hour later, the Katsina state government in a bid to counter the negative publicity generated by the empowerment news on Wednesday said it purchased a total of 4500 goats in total as against 720 reported, the Senior Special Assistant on Social Media Abdulhadi Bawa has said.

In a statement, Bawa noted that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women and Youth Empowerment, Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir was misquoted to have said that the 720 was for each of the 34 local government areas.

According to him, the breakdown of the goats are that 3 women from each of the 316 wards of the State would be given 3 goats totalling 3,249 goats.

“Another 1251 goats was set aside for interested groups and individuals who have interest in animal husbandry. This brings the total of goats purchased to 4500 against the erroneous figure of 720.”

He said, The total number of the 3,249 goats was shared among the 3 senatorial zones of the state in Tambu, Daura senatorial zone, Kabomo, Funtua senatorial zone and PPU in Katsina metropolis, Katsina senatorial zone.

We will keep you updated as more information is made available by our reporters.

He added: “Authorities dispatched emergency personnel on the ground and were able to evacuate all passengers on board to safety and there are no reports of injuries or casualties up until now.
Muttawa also said that there were reports of smoke onboard before the plane made an emergency landing.
Meanwhile, all departure flights from Dubai international airport were delayed until further notice, Dubai authorities said.

Commenting on the incident, Kuwait-based former pilot Sami al-Nusuf, said: “Emirates airlines has proven itself from past incidents in handling high pressure situations. Its record has been clean so far.”
When asked how it was possible to promptly evacuate so many people, Nusuf said: “What happens is that multiple trials and scenarios are practiced by the cabin crew before they are allowed to take flights. They are trained both in getting passengers out within 90 seconds and in handling widespread panic.”

The Twitter account of live air traffic monitor Flightradar24 said takeoffs and landings at Dubai had been suspended because of the incident, adding that the plane involved was a Boeing 777-300 A6-EMW.

Remember we reported few days ago that Emirate has won the Best Airline Award 2016, this goes to  show that it was an award well deserved.
"To evacuate 275 persons from an aircraft in 90 seconds is no mean feat."

We will keep you posted.
